PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance in corner parts of a serration groove by a method wherein a hardened layer composed at least one of carbide, nitride or boride of Ti, V, Cr, Nb, W is coated on the side or the side and the bottom of the serration groove. CONSTITUTION:A hardened layer composed at least of one of carbide, nitride or boride of Ti, V, Cr, Nb, W is coated on the side 2a or the side 2a and the bottom 2b of the serration groove 2 of a gear shaping cutter 1. In this coating, for example, after copper is plated on the tooth surface, serration grooves are provided by cutting, then coating treatment is conducted on the hardened layer and when the copper plating layer is removed by inverse electrolytic treatment, the hardened layer on the tooth surface is removed together with the copper plate layer and the hardened layer is left on the side and the bottom of the serration groove. |
