METHOD FOR STOPPING A FUEL-INJECTION INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE IN CASE OF OVERSPEED

An I.C. engine with fuel injection has a multi-cylinder fuel pump which injects fuel into each engine cylinder in turn. The pump(10) is driven by a camshaft(12) with cams(14) acting through pistons(18). In the event of engine overspeed, the engine can be stopped by injecting high pressure air or inert gas into the pump camshaft chamber(10) so that the pistons(18) are held at the top of their stroke and clear of the cam(14).
