1285372 Prostaglandins UPJOHN CO 8 Aug 1969 [29 Aug 1968 12 Nov 1968] 8645/72 Divided out of 1285371 Heading C2C Novel prostaglandins of the formulµ wherein R 1 is H, C 1-8 alkyl, or a pharmacologically acceptable cation, R 2 and R 3 are H or C 1-8 alkanoy], provided that when R 3 is alkanoyl, R 2 is also alkanoyl, m is 0 or 2 and X, Y and Z are -CH 2 CH 2 -, or X is trans -CH = CH-, Y is cis -CH = CH- and Z is -CH 2 CH 2 - or cis -CH = CH- are prepared by reducing the carbonyl group in compounds of the formulµ wherein R 4 is H or C 1-8 alkyl, or compounds of the above Formula I wherein X, Y and Z are -CH 2 -CH 2 - by reducing the corresponding compounds in which X is trans CH = CH and Y and Z are -CH 2 CH 2 - or X is trans CH = CH, Y is cis-CH=CH- and Z is -CH 2 -H 2 - or cis -CH=CH-. Compounds thus obtained of the above Formulae I and II in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are H may, if desired, be esterified, basified or acylated by usual methods. Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for topical or sytemic, e.g. intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular, oral, rectal, vaginal, buccal, sublingual and as sterile implants, contain the above novel compounds or salts thereof in admixture with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. The compounds have similar pharmacological properties to natural PGF compounds. |
