Process for the concentration of fibrous material in a mixture thereof with non-fibrous material, by causing an aqueous suspension of said mixture to flow upwardly to bring about settling out of material of reduced fibre content and formation of a fibre-enriched fraction above it, which is then separated. In the process, the upward flow is made substantially non-turbulent, and is carried out with gas bubbles passing upwardly through the suspension, to increase the efficiency of separation of fibrous from non-fibrous material. The process is specially applicable to the concentration of fibres in the fibrous product (mineral wools) formed by disintegrating silicate and like mineral melts, which commonly contain a relativnly high proportion of granular material ('shot').
|
