The edge connector has e.g. eight pins in a plastics receptacle and is situated between signal connector blocks, and independently of them. The contacts of the connector receive four male contacts in displaced order owing to the differing lengths of their pins. Centering devices are situated between between the connector body and its receptacle. The longest of the pins is used for earth connections, and is the first to be connected. The next longest pin delivers the negative supply e.g. -5 and -12 volts. The other two pins provide the positive supply. The connector ensures that the supply is connected in the correct order and prior to the connection of the signal pins. The device can be used in telecommunications systems.
