<p>The skin temperature sensor, e.g. for incubator heat control, consists of a thermistor (103) embedded in epoxy resin (104), flush with the mouth of a small cup (101). It is connected to the controller by a cable (107) and plug (109). It is attached, with the thermistor in contact with the skin, by adhesive strip. A bundle of optical fibres (105) enclosed in an opaque sheath (106) is also led into the cup and bent over (102) with the fibre ends close to and in the same plane as the thermistor. The fibre bundle is connected (108) to a warning unit comprising a photo-resistor, DC amplifier, threshold detector and LED indicator. If the sensor should become detached from the skin, ambient light enters the fibre ends, is detected by the unit and a warning indication given. When attaching the sensor, the threshold is set by a variable resistor to suit the level of ambient light.</p> |
