In order to prevent the coarse material occurring in the hopper from interfering with the outlet members, the outlet aperture (11) is provided at a raised position in an outlet chamber (3) for the fluidised material. Provided at the base (5) of this outlet chamber (3) is a device (15) for removing settled coarse material (14). This device may be a comminuting device, which converts the coarse material into pneumatically removable fine material, or a conveying device which also comminutes if required. It can also serve for emptying residues. The arrangement allows a very low position of the hopper base and thus savings in construction costs. <IMAGE>
