The two fluids are brought together in a current following a curved path which is maintained for predetermined distance beyond the point at which the fluids are brought together. Pref. the denser fluid is driven through a curved pipe or channel to create a gradient of pressure within the fluid which increases progressively along a radial cross section from least to greatest radius of curved path. The less dense fluid is introduced through the pipe or channel wall of maximum radius, i.e. the zone of maximum pressure. Downstream of the point of injection of less dense fluid, the curved channel pref. retains a constant radius over a reasonable length, e.g. over an arc of up to 90 deg. The process is partic. applicable to injecting gas into a liq. using a venturi tube. Gas is injected via a central annular core in the throat of the venturi tube. Downstream of the throat, the average path of the tube passage is concave towards the exterior. Used for injection of live steam into a liq., esp. for the sterilisation of milk by condensation of injected steam, and injection of air into waste water to be purified. Excellent dispersion of the less dense fluid which spreads inward down the pressure gradient is obtd. The dispersion uses less energy than mechanical agitation.
|
