In the agitator unit, an agitator shaft (7) extends vertically in a container (6). A container connection (3) possesses an outer cylinder (12) which is open at the top and is fastened coaxially relative to the agitator shaft and which is partially filled with a liquid (13). A fixed inner cylinder (14), likewise arranged coaxially relative to the agitator shaft (7), penetrates into the outer cylinder (12). The outer annular space (16) formed between the inner cylinder (14) and the outer cylinder (12) is connected to the container interior and an inner annular space (17) between the agitator shaft (7) and the inner cylinder (14) is connected to the atmosphere via a channel (18). This makes it possible to achieve a seal between the agitator shaft (7) and the outer cylinder (12) free of any contact with the inner cylinder (14), since the liquid can ensure an absolute sealing between the outer cylinder and the inner cylinder. <IMAGE>
