Protein animal feed from animal hide scrap - by cooking in presence of a fat, and eliminating the fat

Hide and skin scrap is converted into a protein powder by the following process: the scrap is chopped finely and cooked in the presence of fat. The fat is then eliminated, by extn. with hexane or by hydrolysis, and the prod. ground to a powder. The prod. is used as an animal feed. Specifically, abattoir hide and skin scrap is cleaned to eliminate foreign matter. It is then washed and chopped to a size of 2-3 cm. It then passes to a cooker where it is heated at 110-115 deg.C in the presence of a fat. Some of the fat is removed in drainer and press or centrifuge. The particles are extracted with solvent at 90-100 deg.C. The defatted particles are ground to a fine powder, sieved and bagged.
