Machine with a rotatable and axially movable carousel for interacting with several locations which are distributed in a circle around its axis of rotation, in which machine the carousel is driven for the intermittent rotation by a star-wheel mechanism with as many legs as locations to be operated, with which star-wheel mechanism a rotary drive member interacts, characterised in that the axial movement of the carousel is derived from the rotation of the rotary drive member (19, 20) by means of a cam element (21) which is connected to the rotary drive member (19, 20) in such a way as to be fixed in terms of rotation and in the axial direction interacts with the carousel during the phases of non-engagement between the rotary drive member and the star-wheel mechanism. <IMAGE>
