Purificn. of smoke and other waste gases contg. SO2 involves contact with an aq. suspension contg. CaCO3 as absorbent, which is produced from waste slurry contg. CaCO3 from the Solvay process. This slurry can be used alone or mixed with lime and/or limestone. The waste is used instead of being discharged and causing environmental pollution.
