A pressure-compensating device for heating installations in buildings. The pressure-compensating device has a compensating container for the heating medium which is closed off in relation to the outside air and which is connected to the heating installation via inlet lines and outlet lines (12, 15). Provided inside the compensating container is a chamber (14) with modifiable volume which is closed off in relation to the compensating container. The chamber (14) is connected to the water pipe network of the building and is filled with mains water. The inlet and outlet of the mains water into the chamber (14) is controlled by a control unit depending upon the operating pressure of the heating installation. <IMAGE>
