The apparatus for the packaging of bags filled with flowable material consists mainly of a transport device (1), consisting of an endless chain of pockets (2), a stacking shaft (4), a lifting means and a turning wheel (5). The pockets (2) have supporting elements (20) for the bags (B), the said supporting elements forming an angle with the plane of the transport path, in such a way that the bag in the subsequent pocket is at least partially covered. As a result of this arrangement, the bags are layered to form a stack, without their position being varied. The stacks with an equal number of bags are brought into chambers (23-26) of the turning wheel (5) by the lifting means. The turning wheel executes a rotation through 90 DEG , and in the position of the filled chamber (25) now assumed the bags can be ejected under lateral pressure and packaged. By means of such an apparatus, the material in the bags cannot be distributed unevenly and the sealing seams of the bags are not distorted and compressed. <IMAGE>
