1,134,240. Sleeve connectors. s. A. R. BOOKER. 15 July, 1966 [7 Sept., 1965], No. 32028/66. Heading H2E. A sleeve connector comprises a sleeve 10 of heat-shrinkable plastics insulation having, on its inside surface, metal pieces 11. The bared conductors 13, 14 of leads 16 to be connected are inserted into the sleeve, and the latter is then heated to cause it to shrink around the ends of the insulation of the leads 16 and to press the metal pieces 11 against the conductors. The pieces 11 are toothed and the teeth of the several pieces may form an interrupted thread, preferably left-hand towards one end and righthand towards the other, so that the sleeve may be screwed on to the conductors. The pieces 11 may be formed from a single toothed strip of brass or steel folded into a serpentine shape and then rolled into a cylinder which may be held on an expanded mandrel while the sleeve is partially shrunk to grip it. The sleeve may be open at one end only for joining wires in sideby-side relation. |
