A multi-colour image recording device includes a plurality of recording stations each including a thermal head (114,124,134) and guide means for guiding an ink donor sheet (112,122,132) between the thermal head and the path of the recording paper (140). The heads and ink donor sheets all lie on one side of the path of the paper (140) and pressure applying means (111,121,131) on the other side of the path is provided for pressing the recording paper and the donor sheets against the thermal heads. The heads are supplied with electrical signals whereby portions of each head are selectively heated to transfer images to the paper (140).
