<p>Stabilisers for PVC comprise (a) at least one organozinc cpd. (I), (b) at least one organic deriv. of a gp. 2a metal and (c) at least one ester of thioglycolic acid (III). (I) is e.g. a Zn salt of a carboxylic acid or Zn derivs. of phenolic cpds., mercaptides and chelates of beta-dicarbonyl cpds. (II) is e.g. a salt of a carboxylic acid, derivs, of phenolic cpds., mercaptides or chelates of beta-dicarbonyl cpds. of Ca, Mg, Ba or Sr. (III) is esp. a cpd. (HS-CH2-COO)nR in which n is 1, 2 or 3 and R is a radical of valency n such as (i) linear or branched, satd. or mono- or polyunsaturated 2-36C aliphatic radicals in which the carbon chain may be interrupted by one or more -O- or -S- links; (ii) a cycloaliphatic gp. contg. one or more 5-12C rings, opt. substd. by one or more 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy gps.; (iii) cycloalkylaliphatic or cycloalkenylaliphatic gps. formed from one or more rings with a total of 5-12C and n aliphatic chains with 1-6C which may be bonded to the cyclic part via an oxygen atom -O-; etc. The stabiliser combinations are synergistic and have low toxicity, and give colourless PVC compsns. with excellent heat resistance.</p> |
