The current is measured by a magnetic circuit around the conductor with a semiconductor transducer in the magnetic circuit giving a voltage output proportional to the magnetic field passing through the transducer. The conductor (1) has a rectangular profile magnetic circuit (2), mfd. from iron or a similar ferromagnetic material, slipped over the end to lie in the plane of the flux surrounding the conductor. An air gap (5) is cut across the magnetic circuit and a semiconductor transducer (6) is placed in the air gap, giving an output voltage (Vs) proportional to magnetic field intensity which is in turn proportional to conductor current. The output voltage can be used to control an operation such as automatic load shedding of an electric heater when total installation current becomes excessive.
|
