The turning lathe has two tool carrying units (16A, 16B) mounted to be pivoted from an operative position above the slideway (12) to an inoperative position. A movable structure on the slideway may be moved to engage that tool unit in the operative position. The tool unit and the structure are driveably interconnectable and then may be moved along the slideway to disengage from the pivot member. The pivot member has guideways for slidably receiving a tool unit. These units may be detached from the pivot guideways in one direction to a working position, and in a second direction to a storage caoused magazine.
