The multi-speed vehicle gearbox is particularly for a private car, having a pinion on an output shaft and pairs of constant-mesh gears. One in each pair are fixed to its respective shaft while the other is detachably coupled by a sliding sleeve to a synchromesh body. Two or more gears fixed to the output shaft work with a common sleeve and body. The pinion (7) is mounted between the two fixed gears (19,21) on the output shaft and the gears can be those of third and fourth speeds. The output shaft can be hollow, running in bearings on a spindle fixed in the gearbox housing.
