1,267,261. Toaster. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan.2, 1970 [Jan.6, 1969], No.286/70. Heading A4D. An electric toaster comprises a sheet metal frame 28 attached to a base plate by means of pairs of tabs 84, 86 on the lower walls of the frame which press into corresponding pairs of slots in the base plate, cammed surfaces 92, 94, 96, 98 on the tabs being forced apart by the pressure of the inside edges of the dots until projecting latching noses 100, 102, 106 on the tabs clear the base plate and snap into position. Horizontal tongues 76, 78, 80, 82 adjacent to the tabs supported on raised portions of the base, have apertures 130, 132, 134, 136 for the engagement and support of downturned ends 126, 128 of an inwardly turned bread guard 113, which is then located in the frame by pivoting round fixed ends 126, 128 and engaging its upper horizontal limb 114 between “ spherical cammed latch surfaces 156, 158 and downwardly protruding stop tabs 152, 154 on the underside of the top wall of the frame. A wire heater card is attached to the bread guard such that the vertical members 118, 120, 122, 124 separate the bread from the heater card. A slot 104 up the side of the frame accommodates a bread carrier which lifts bread out of the housings defined by the bread guards, and also serves to increase the resilience of the tabs 84, 86, which aids connection of the metal frame to the base plate. |
