PURPOSE:To simplify a magnetic tape device, etc., while improving the reliability of data, by equipping the 2nd readable and writable magnetic head for the 2nd track of a magnetic tape with a shift in position from the 1st head, and providing a read buffer for the 2nd magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:With writing data, the 1st and 2nd heads 11 and 12 writes the contents of a buffer 13 for reading and writing simultaneously, but in reading operation, the data is read in the buffer 13 and a buffer 14 for reading separately. When the head is positioned at the 100th block, the head 12 can not be positioned at the 100th block accurately and a slight shift is made. To eliminate the shift, the 100th block in the 1st track group is first read and stacked in the buffer 14 and during or after the reading operation, the 100th block is read from the 2nd track group and then stacked in the buffer 14. At this point of time, the reading of the 100th block is considered to be completed. This constitution improve the reliability of data greatly and reduces the size of the device to half. |
