The cutter for harvested material is in the form of cylindrical bales and includes a cylindrical casing (1) open top and bottom, and supporting a rotating turntable (4) inside the open bottom. This supports the bale (3) and is rotated by a drive at the outside. Supported by a hollow beam (10) across the top is a vertical arm (11) with a cutter (13) at the bottom. The casing has a door (2) at the side which can be swung open about vertical hinges. The vertical arm is attached to a slider (12) which can be moved along the beam by a cord drive (16) with its cord travelling around pulleys (17) each end of the beam. The cutter can be raised and lowered inside the casing. An alternative design has a fixed frame with an arm overhanging the turntable, carrying the reciprocating cutter.
