The furnace used for heating steel comprises combustion chambers arranged above and underneath the product to be heated and hollow steel girders (d) arranged longitudinally with respect to the furnace, attached to supports and cooled by a fluid stream. A very uniform heating of the product to be heated is obtained owing to the fact that built-in parts are secured to the girders: the portion of girders (d) which is close to the inlet of products to be heated comprises built-in parts made of one or two elements whereas the portion close to the outlet is provided with parts of three support elements (a) which are arranged loose on the girders (d) and which are subdivided into compartments by transversal partition walls (h), insulating elements (b) of ceramic material arranged into the compartments of the support elements (a), and metal sliding elements (c), very resistant to heat, bearing on the insulating elements (b) and provided with appendices (i) of which the vertical surfaces (j) are next to corresponding surfaces (k) of the support elements (a).
