A wire coiling device comprises a turntable 2 having a plurality of mandrels 7 capable of being raised and lowered so that turns of wire supplied in fanned-out form may be deposited on one of the mandrels in raised position to form a coil, and the turntable 2 rotated to present the coil to a pressing and binding appliance 12. A mandrel 7 is moved by a cylinder 10 into a funnel 11 and retaining flaps 15 are swung away to cause the turns of wire, moving through an eccentrically rotating funnel 14, to be deposited on to a table 7a of the mandrel 7. When a complete coil has been formed on the mandrel 7, the latter is lowered and the flaps 15 moved to the retaining position. The turntable 2 is turned through 180 degrees to present an empty mandrel 7 beneath the funnel 11 and the coil beneath the pressing and binding appliance 12. The mandrel 7 carrying the coil thereon is raised by a cylinder 9 to compress the coil against an abutment 12a which is vertically positionable. After the coil has been bound by a metal strip, a driven roller surface 16 is pivoted into a position beneath the bound coil and the mandrel 7 is lowered to cause the coil to be conveyed along a roller table 18. |
