The invention relates to a high-pressure piston pump which has a pump piston which penetrates the pump cylinder outwards on the drive side, and wear-resistant running faces of piston and cylinder. The pump is sealed, in a simple manner and without further sealing measures, against leakage losses at the point where the pump piston emerges, by virtue of the pump piston (5) having a piston clearance in the cylinder bore of in the range from approximately 0.005 to 0.01 mm and, with a guide length (17) in the bore at the internal end position of the piston of at least approximately 300 mm, having a travel of approximately from 500 to 1000 mm, and by virtue of the pump piston (5) itself consisting of a hard metal. <IMAGE>
