The tool insert has a housing 1 to be centred in the boring bar by a groove 2 and two boring bit carriers 4,7 with cylindrical shanks 8,9 slidable longitudinally in aligned bores 3,6 so that the boring diameter D determined by the distance between the outermost corners of the boring bits 12 and 13 can be adjusted. Each boring bit is accurately and independently adjusted relative to the centre of the housing 1, by a screwthreaded portion 10,11 engaging with a respective adjusting ring 25,26 located without play in the central part of the housing 1. The rings are held axially between axial bearing ball sets 30,31 engaging a housing and an internal sleeve 5 shoulder respectively. Adjusting pin sockets 38 and 39 on the rings 25 and 26 are accessible through a centering groove 2. Clamping screws 22 and 23 act on carrier flats 20 and 21.
