A damping member is described for damping the pivot movements of a handling device about a pivot centre, the handling device being suspended pivotably on a manoeuvring arm. The damping member comprises, according to the invention, a stand (4) which is mounted pivotably on the handling device with the aid of a horizontal bearing shaft (3), this bearing shaft (3) forming a pivot centre (3a) for the handling device for pivoting into a vertical plane, and at least one, and preferably two, shock absorber(s) (12, 13) which are secured with in each case one end on the stand (4) above and at a distance from the said pivot centre (3a) and are connected at the other end directly or indirectly to the handling device, laterally and at a distance from the said pivot centre or a vertical plane through this, with the aid of a bearing shaft (24, 25) which is parallel to the said pivot centre, and the shock absorbers (12, 13) are as a result capable of damping the pivot movements of the handling device about the said pivot centre (3a). <IMAGE>
