The engine cylinder head includes two intake ports (2,3) whose area is 1.1 to 1.7 times the area of the exhaust port (4). The fuel injector receiving bore (11) has an axis inclined to, and spaced from, the cylinder axis (0) at the base of the cylinder head (1). A water chamber (20) is provided between the walls defining the water from the cylinder jacket through a drilled bore (23) and a further drilled bore extends through a wall (26) between the bore (11) and the exhaust passage adjacent the base of the cylinder head.
