The lift is in the form of a steel rail(2) which is connected at its lower end to a seat plate and at its upper end to a hoist or lift mechanism which comprises two hydraulic pistons(3) and cylinders(4). The lift mechanism is associated with a suspension mechanism(1) which grips over the edge of the bath(7) and the cylinders(4) of the lift mechanism are connected by a distributor pipe(5) to a water supply and emptying pipe(6) which is provided with a tap. Water entering the pipe rises high into the two cylinders thus raising the two pistons and the seat. Emptying the water causes the seat to lower the person onto the floor of the bath.
