Oxazole and by-products acrylonitrile, acetonitrile and acrolein are produced by reacting at elevated temperatures in the vapour phase propylene with O 2 and NH 3 over an oxidation catalyst, the proportion of propylene in the feed being at least 4% by volume, the concentration of NH 3 being at least 4% by volume and the molar ratio of O 2 to olefine being at least 2. The oxazole can be separated from the by-products by fractional distillation, solvent extraction or hydroextraction. |
