PURPOSE:To increase the cycle life and enhance the discharge characteristic of a chargable battery containing an organic electrolyte, by using a lithium-magnesium alloy as a negative active material. CONSTITUTION:A negative current collecting body 4 is fixed on the inner wall of a negative can 10, and a negative electrode 1 is pressed and fixed to the body 4. A positive electrode 2 prepared by molding a mixture consisting of titanium sulfide used as an active material, a conductive agent, and a binder made of a fluorine resin is placed on the inner wall of a positive can 20. A separator 3 holding organic electrolyte is placed between the positive electrode 2 and the negative electrode 1. An insulating gasket 5 is interposed between the cans 10 and 20 to seal the battery, and the whole constitutes a chargeable organic-electrolyte battery. As a negative active material for the electrode 1, a lithium-magnesium alloy powder, which is prepared by mixing lithium powder and magnesium powder, for example, in a molar ratio of 60:40, heating and melting the mixture at 470 deg.C in an atmosphere of argon, and cooling the mixture before it is pulverized, is used. |
