In a rotary ball valve the elastic seals 31 on the ball are supplemented by lubricant grooves 38, 39 which are supplied by separate passages 42, 43 that open at ports 44, 45 in the stem. The ports 44, 45 co-operate with supply passages 46, 47 in the housing only in the valve closed position so that the lubricant supply is automatically cut off as the valve is rotated to open position. Reduced diameter plugs 51 meter the flow of lubricant to the grooves. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the elastic seals and the lubricant grooves are in a multi-part seating which is biased towards the ball by a conical spring washer.</p> |
