Dewatering press for a multilayer travelling paper web includes 2 felts carrying the web through a nip(N-1) between a press roll(25) & a 2nd open roll(26) with a suction gland, one felt leaving the web after the nib, a 3rd felt(27) assisting the web through a nip(N-2) between the 2nd roll(26) & an open 3rd roll(28), after which the 2nd felt(24) leaves the open 3rd roll(28), after which the 2nd felt(24) leaves the web. A 4th felt(32) sandwiches the web to pass through a 3rd nip(N-3) between the 3rd & 4th roll(28, 31), & the same felts then carry the web through a nip(N-4) between 5th & 6th roll(33,34). The suction glands of the 2nd & 3rd rolls extend resp. between 1st & 2nd, and 2nd & 3rd, nips.
