PURPOSE:To provide a homogeneous photoconductive layer of an image tube using a vapor deposition material obtained as described hereinafter and have reproducibity for characteristics improved, by compressing the material powder for molding a photoconductive layer to be formed into a solid pellet state. CONSTITUTION:The given amount of powder 28a of photoconductive vapor deposition material of II-VI group is shaped in a concavity 40 having a circular cross section of a female die 39 of a compression molding apparatus. This material is compressed with the given pressure as an arrow 42 shows, by a male punch 41 so as to be finished into a vapor deposition material 28 in a solid pellet state. A photoconductive layer considered excellent as a photoelectric converting target may be formed if this material, is formed, for instance, in a disk-shape and vapor-deposited in a low pressure atmosphere containing oxygen. |
