PURPOSE:To obtain an optically active halogen-containing carbonyl compound in high yield and purity in a short time, by carrying out addition reaction of two kinds of substrates having specific structural formulas in an organic phase in the presence of an enzyme. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I [R1 is halogen-containing alkyl; R2 is COOR3, COR4, COX or CON(R5)R6 (X is halogen; R3-R6 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl which may have substituent group)] and a compound of formula II {R7 is H, (substituted) alkyl or (substituted) aryl; Y is NR8, S or O [R8 is H, (substituted) alkyl or (substituted) aryl]} are subjected to addition reaction in an organic phase (e.g. benzene) in the presence of an enzyme (preferably alkaline microbial lipase composed of macromolecule having a molecular weight of >=100,000). A halogen-containing carbonyl compound of formula III can be produced by the process.
