PURPOSE:To improve startability of an engine, by rendering the ignition system substantially inoperative for a certain while at the initial stage of cranking, and starting ignition after the engine speed is raised to such a level that the ignition timing is not affected by the ignition angle being advanced due to the loosening of a timing chain. CONSTITUTION:The ignition system of an engine of this invention comprises a starter 13 for starting cranking when an S-terminal of an ignition switch 12 is turned ON, an ignitor 15 which charges and discharges a primary ignition coil 18 each time a rransistor Q1 is turned On and OFF by the output pulse of an ignitor circuit 17 whose timing is controlled by a distributor 16, and a secondary ignition coil 19 for impressing a high voltage to an ignition plug. Further, a timer circuit 21 consisting of an npn transistor Q2 and a timer 20 of a monostable multivibrator or the like that is triggered by a cranking signal produced at the S-terminal of the switch 12 is provided for rendering the ignition system substantially inoperative by turning the transistor Q1 OFF when the transistor Q2 is turned ON. |
