NEW MATERIAL:A pentadiene compound expressed by formula I (R1-R4 are lower alkyl; R5 is alkyl). EXAMPLE:1,5-Bis[4-N,N-dimethylamino)phenyl]-5-methoxypenta-1,3-diene. USE:A color former for recording material having strong absorption to near infrared ray in colored state, excellent in solubility to capsule oil when used in pressure-sensitive recording sheet and low in melting point and having excellent sensitivity performance when used in heat sensitive recording sheet. PREPARATION:A bisstyrylcarbenium perchloric acid salt derivative expressed by formula II obtained by reacting a bisstyrylcarbinol derivative with perchloric acid in an alcohol solvent such as methanol, etc., is reacted with an alkali metal salt of alcohols expressed by the formula R5O-M (M is alkali metal) in an alcohol solvent at 20-100 deg.C to provide the compound expressed by formula I. |
