PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive copying device which permits easy inputting of patterns by synthesizing the pattern instructed on a plane member with an original image and copying the same. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 210 reads out the font information corresponding to the code of an add-on display RAM 207 first from an add-on font ROM 208 and develops the same in an add-on RAM 205. The CPU 210 reads the original by auxiliary scanning and movement of an optical system of a reader after the development of the font information to the add-on RAM 205 and the setting of a parameter to an add-on image forming circuit 206. The original is optoelectrically converted by a CCD 201 and is subjected to image processing in an image processing circuit 202. The image data on the character train from the add-on image forming circuit 206 and the data on the original image from the add-on image forming circuit 206 are synthesized by a synthesizing circuit 203 and the synthesized data is outputted to a printer 204.
