Oxayohimbane derivs. of formula (I) are new. (where R is H or 1-4C alkyl and the 17-OR and 19-methyl groups may be in the alpha or beta configurations). Tetrahydroalstonin is saponified with aqueous HCl to give (I;R = H). Reaction with an alcohol gives (I) where R is other than H. The compounds increase noradrenaline liberation and so are useful in neuropsychiatry.
