The individual photographic negatives (8,10) are each provided with a control strip (5) along one side. This is used for identifying (9) the customer's order and has a semi-circular cutout (12) along its free edge. A common carrier strip (1) is used to convey the negatives through the automatic printer and this strip is provided with regularly spaced positioning marks (2) which can be read by the machine. The negatives are attached to the carrier strip by superimposing their cutouts over the marks, the negatives then forming a line for passing through the machine.
