PURPOSE:The titled latex that contains a copolymer made from a specific acrylic or methacrylic ester, styrene, unsaturate carboxylic acid and hydrolyzable vinyl silane, thus giving a transparent, stable and crosslinked polymer only by drying. CONSTITUTION:The objective latex suitably used as a vehicle for coating comprise a copolymer made from (A) 10-90wt% acrylic alkyl ester bearing an alkyl group of 1-20, preferably 1-8 carbon atoms such as methyl acrylate, (B) 90-10wt% methacrylic alkyl ester bearing an alkyl group of 1-20, preferably 1-8 carbon atoms and/or styrene, (C) 0.5-5wt% alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid such as acrylic acid and (D) 0.1-5wt% hydrolyzable vinyl silane such as vinyl ethoxy silane. |
