The method produces bar material from round-section steel wire, forming a flat side by a roller. In a single rolling operation, the material is provided with three flat sides, one or more of these being profiled (21). The rollers can be mounted in open positions in the rolling mill and the bar can be of triangular section radiused at the corners. The profile can consist of elliptical bosses at regular intervals along the bar, the major axis of each ellipse being at between 30 and 60 deg. to the lengthwise axis of the bar.
