<p>PURPOSE:To keep the high freshness of fruits and vegetables for a long period, by placing an adsorbent containing a palladium compound supported on a carrier in the package of the fruits and vegetables, thereby removing ethylene selectively from the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A palladium salt is supported on a powdery or granular carrier selected from activated charcoal, crystalline aluminosilicate (clinoptilolite, etc.), acid clay, and active earth, by contacting the carrier with an aqueous solution of a palladium salt under acidic conditions with hydrochloric acid. The concentration of the palladium salt is adjusted to give the palladium salt content of 0.05-2wt% based on the carrier. The product is heated at normal temp. -500 deg.C, and charged in a bag made of breathable nonwoven cloth, paper, cloth, soft polyethylene, etc. The bag is packed together with the fruits and vegetables to be stored with a proper film.</p> |
