Process for the production of glass articles

The process for the production of glass articles is characterised in that a blank of a glass article is molten and shaped which has a composition situated in the regions which can be separated into phases of the alkali metal borosilicate or germanium alkali metal silicate systems, in that appropriate action is taken to separate the phases and in that the silica-poor phase is extracted by leaching only from the surface layers, with a view to obtaining a structure which has porous surface layers surrounding a solid region which has substantially the initial glass composition. The washing is carried out using an organic medium containing at least 50 % of water. The numerous breakages of articles which take place during washing are thus eliminated.
