<p>When ground water is laden with excessive carbon dioxide, heavy metals, ammonium or nitrite, it must be treated before it can be used as a water supply. This is done by distributing in the water bearing strate treated water which has been enriched in oxygen content. For this purpose, pure oxygen or a gas mixture, containing more oxygen than when air is dissolved in the enriched water, can be used. This requires a lesser number of enrichment wells around a pumping well when just air is used for enrichment. If the enrichment well is totally enclosed, the oxygen pressure can be used to accelerate the spread.</p> |
