A neutralised sulphonated elastomeric polymer when dissolved in a mixed solvent, e.g. an aromatic hydrocarbon and an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol, having a Brookfield viscosity of 1000 to 200,000 cps. at ambient temperature results in a solution suitable for forming fibres. The solution is passed through a spinneret having a plurality of orifices.
