A device for changing the illuminating optics of a microscope is provided which has a multiplicity of illuminating objects having different magnification values. Arranged in an edge region of the image plane of the objective is a photometric light-receiving element whose output is determined in the case of successively performed changes in the illuminating optics. The matching of the objective and illuminating optics is determined in accordance with the value found, and the illuminating optics which provide the best match in each case are selected. <IMAGE>
