The side band (1) surrounding the periphery of a group of articles (8, 8a) has at least two series of parallel superposed slots (7, 7a) in which are engaged the angles or the sides (9, 9a) of the edges of the superposed articles (8, 8a) according to their original direction, said slots (7, 7a) being arranged alternatingly on the sides (3, 3a) of the band.
