PURPOSE:To early give notice of preparations for paper supply by adopting optical fibr in an optical transmission path for connecting thickness of paper end surface with a display device in order to indiucate thickness of paper residual quantity in a copier, whereby the paper residual quantity is indicated in a simple construction. CONSTITUTION:At the time of copying, a light source 10 is lighted and light is directed under a paper placing plate 4 through a hole 7 of a bottom plate of a paper feeding cassette 1. The light passes through holes 1a, 17a, 18a, 16 and incides the end surface of a light guide 2 formed of optical fiber, which is opposed to a paper thickness portion above the paper placing plate 4, not the light guide end surface opposed to a paper thickness portion above the paper placing plate. Accordingly, a black portion of the light guide end surface opposed to an indicating device 9 shows the paper residual quantity. It never happens that an operator starts copying operation without noticing lack of paper and is confused when paper is out in the middle of copying operation. |
